You DO NOT REQUIRE Dextrose or and additional ingredients to get this brew fermenting.

For best results we strongly encourage brewers to dry-hop this brew. Hops are required to achieve the full hazy affect.

About This Brew

The Black Rock Brew-In-Box Hazy IPA is the latest addition to Black Rock’s BIB range offering a premium brewing product and joins one of the hottest trends in brewing with their first Hazy brew.

With Black Rock’s Crafted Brew-in-a-Box range, home brewers can use the same product sold to professional microbreweries. With no additional fermentation ingredients required getting a brew on has never been quicker. And with high quality wort, its easier than ever for brewers to get a great finish on their brew.

The premium ingredients, pourable at ambient temperatures and ability to alter ABV and bitterness by altering brew volume, along with the freedom to dry hop gives you the ability to easily make craft quality beer at home.

This 100% malt brew is made using New Zealand malts and bittered with local hops.

Suggested Hop Pairing

It is recomended that you dry hop this brew. Hazies are best with hop character and requires hops to get a much more pronounced and stable haze. Black Rock have advised that the haze is significantly less present when no dry hop is used and suggest that dry hopping overall will lead to a higher quality brew with this kit.

This brew will be well suited to any hop that offers a fruity profile like Galaxy or Mosaic.

Hazy IPAs typically have very fruity hop forward profiles and you can comfortable add 100 and up to 200grams of hops depending on your personal preferences. We would suggest adding half of your hops on day 4 of fermentation and the remaining hops on Day 9 of fermentation. Make sure you are using a hop sock if you can’t cold crash.

How Can I Increase The ABV On The Black Rock Brew-In-Box Crafted IPA

When brewing at the recomended 23Litres the target ABV for the Black BIB Crafted Hazy IPA is approximately 4.8%. Brewers wanting a higher ABV brew can try any of the following options:

  • Decreate total volume in fermenter from 23 litres to 19 litres. We estimate reducing the total volume in fermenter to this level will increase the final ABV to approximately 5.5 – 6.0%. Taking this approah would also increase the bitterness of the brew from an IBU of 28 up to around 34 which would still be classifed (in our books) as an easy-going to mid level of bittlerness.
  • Add additional fermentables. You could add additional fermentables. Our pick in this case would be 1KG of Liquid Brewing Sugar which would give you an additional 1-2% ABV and a total expected range of 5.8-6.8%. If you really want to push the ABV up add 1.4KG of Liquid Brewing Sugar.

The SafAle S-33 Yeast has an alcohol tolerance of up to 9-11% leaving brewers a lot of flexibility depending on your personal preferences.

2. Spicy Chicken Wings: The heat from the wings is beautifully balanced by the fruity, slightly sweet flavors of the Black Rock BIB Hazy IPA.

3. Fish and Chips: The classic New Zealand favorite gets a zesty lift from the fruity undertones of a Hazy IPA.

4.Summer Salads: Think fresh greens tossed with fruits like mango or peach, topped with a citrusy dressing to match the IPA’s character.

5.Cheese Platters: Opt for cheeses like Gouda or Havarti that have a mild creaminess to harmonize with the fruity and hoppy notes of the beer.
