Only the finest grains are selected and malted. Malts are blended to suit the beer style, then mashed with hop extracts to create hopped wort. The fresh wort is gently reduced to 80 Brix before being canned fresh on-site to retain its original delicious malt flavours.
What is an Imperial Porter?
An Imperial Porter is a robust version of the traditional Porter, first crafted in 18th-century London. The term “Imperial” signifies higher alcohol levels and richer flavors, akin to the Russian Imperial Stout originally brewed for the Russian court. These porters, slightly lighter and less bitter than Imperial Stouts, showcase deep flavors of dark chocolate, coffee, caramel, and molasses, balanced by a malty sweetness. Alcohol content usually ranges from 7% to 12% ABV.
Additional Ingredients Required:
For a full bodied Imperial Porter with a smooth mouthfeel, we recomend you add 1.5KG of Brick Road Dark Malt Extract plus 1KG Brick Road Dark Dry Malt Extract.
Optional Ingredients:
For a higher ABV use Liquid Brewing Sugar in addition to the malt extract ingredients recomended.
Sweetness and body can be added using lactose. We suggest you review dosage rate for lactose prior to using.
Looking for a food match? The Brick Road Imperial Porter Craft Beer Kit Goes Well With…
1. Roast Lamb: The classic New Zealand roast lamb, with its rich, savory flavors, would be enhanced by the caramel notes and robust character of the Imperial Porter.
2. Hangi: A traditional Maori method of cooking food using heated rocks buried in a pit oven. The smoky, earthy flavors of meats and vegetables cooked in a hangi would harmonize beautifully with the smoky notes from the porter.
3. Fish and Chips: A classic Kiwi favorite, the crispy battered fish and golden fries would be a perfect counterbalance to the sweetness and full body of the beer.
4. Venison Pie: A hearty venison pie, with its rich meaty filling, would pair well with the deep malt flavors and the hint of cocoa in the beer.
5. Pavlova: This quintessential New Zealand dessert, with its meringue base topped with whipped cream and fresh fruits, would complement the slight sweetness and complexity of the porter.
