What is liquid brewing sugar

Liquid brewing sugar is a malt-based syrup created through a controlled malting and conversion process — not simply dissolved dextrose. It’s designed specifically for brewing, providing a cleaner fermentation and better body than standard sugars like dextrose.

Made by breaking down starches into fermentable sugars, this liquid form integrates seamlessly into your brew, enhancing both flavour and fermentation performance. It’s ideal for boosting alcohol content without adding extra sweetness and works particularly well in pale or dry beer styles and ciders.

How is liquid brewing sugar different to dextrose?

Liquid brewing sugar differs from dextrose in both its source and how it behaves during fermentation. While dextrose is a simple sugar derived from corn that ferments quickly and cleanly, liquid brewing sugar is produced through a malting process that converts starches into fermentable sugars. The result is a brewing ingredient that delivers a clean fermentation without altering the intended flavour or aroma of your beer or cider. It’s ideal for brewers who want to increase alcohol content or support fermentation performance without introducing any additional taste characteristics.

Directions for liquid brewing sugar use

1 kg of liquid brewing sugar can increase your brew’s ABV by approximately 1–2%, depending on the total batch size and recipe.

Suitable for use with beer and cider kits.
Not recommended for use with wine kits.

When using as a primary or additional fermentable, add the full contents of the tin to your fermenter along with your brewing kit ingredients.
For best results, dissolve in 2–3 litres of boiling water before topping up to final volume.

Liquid brewing sugar is very thick.
To make pouring easier, soak the tin in hot water for at least 15 minutes before use. This helps loosen the syrup and ensures you get every last drop into your brew.
