Pouring a deep amber colour, it delivers rich malt character with notes of caramel, chocolate, and a hint of roasted coffee. Balanced by moderate bitterness, this sessionable beer is both satisfying and refreshing – a classic choice for any occasion.

Additional Fermentables Required

To get the best from this brew, you’ll need to add fermentables. Choose one of the following options depending on your style preference:

Option One: The Basics Brew
Use Liquid Brewing Sugaror Dextrose.
For better body and head retention when using Dextrose, we recommend Premium Blend Light over straight dextrose.

Option Two: Crisp and Light
Use 1kg Extra Light Dry Malt Extract for a clean flavour profile, subtle malt character, and a refreshing, crisp finish.

Option Three: Smooth and Satisfying
For a fuller mouthfeel and smooth finish, use Liquid Malt Extract.
Choose Black Rock Light for a subtle malt character and clean flavour profile.

Optional Extras

Boost your brew with these recommended extras for better flavour, fermentation, and finish:

Craft Yeast
Upgrade your fermentation by using a quality craft yeast.

Our go-to for this brew is 2 x SafAle US-05 (23g total) which a great all-rounder yeast with a nuetral flavour profile.

Note: When using craft yeast always check the ideal fermentation termperature range for that yeast. 

Yeast Nutrients
Add yeast nutrient to support a healthy fermentation, ensuring your yeast performs at its best for full attenuation and a consistent result.

Finings
For crystal-clear beer, use finings in the final 24–48 hours before bottling. This helps remove sediment, improves flavour stability, and gives your lager a polished, professional look.

Dry Hopping
It would be uncommon to dry hop a classic draught-style beer. Modeled after traditional New Zealand brown draughts (Speights, Wiakato, Lion Red), the Classic Draft is a malt driven session beer. The goal is clean, smooth and approachable. We’d leave the hops out for this one.
