Made for use after distillation (not for beer or wine), this alcometer is simple to use and comes with clear instructions so you can get reliable results every time.

Whether you’re fine-tuning a recipe, ensuring compliance with your desired ABV, or simply curious about the strength of your creation, this tool makes the process straightforward and accurate.

How to Use an Alcometer for Spirits

  1. Collect your sample – Take a small amount of your finished distilled spirit (room temperature is ideal for most alcometers).

  2. Fill a test jar – Use a tall, narrow testing cylinder to get the most accurate reading.

  3. Gently lower the alcometer – Let it float freely without touching the sides of the jar.

  4. Read at eye level – Note where the liquid meets the scale. You can read either the ABV (0–100%) or Proof scale depending on your preference.

  5. Adjust for temperature – If your sample isn’t at the calibration temperature stated on your alcometer (often 20°C), use a correction chart to adjust the reading.

Tip: Alcometers are designed for distilled spirits only. They won’t give accurate readings for beer, wine, or any beverage with sugar content.

Alcomenter vs. Hydrometer

What is the difference?

An alcometer measures the alcohol content of clear, sugar-free liquids like distilled spirits. A hydrometer measures sugar content in beer or wine before and during fermentation.
